Happy 2022! The scholars have started the new year off with many different activities. Our monthly Social-Emotional theme for scholars in Kindergarten through Fifth grade is Communication. They are exploring healthy and unhealthy communication patterns. They have learned effective ways to engage with their peers and others. The caterpillars (K-2nd graders) learned how to listen and respond to others, behaviors for engaging in conversations and being assertive. The Butterflies (3-5 graders) Learned how to identify their own communication style, developed effective ways of engaging with others in their environments and in action.
The Middle school scholars have learned perseverance with our Social Emotional Learning curriculum. They learned how to use innovation to solve problems, experiencing problems strengthens confidence to work through future problems, builds resilience and confidence. The scholars learned how to develop a toolkit of strategies to use when encountering problems and barriers. In financial literacy, the scholars are learning about wants and needs and how they influence our decisions to spend money. Scholars understand what humans truly need to survive compared to what society needs. They also learned about opportunity cost and how that influences spending decisions.
We celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday’ by reading his book “ I am Martin Luther King Jr” by Brad Meltzer and completing their own “I have a dream” speech. The older scholars completed acrostic poems for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Lastly, our middle school scholars participated in the 2022 Regional Community Health Needs assessment for local hospitals. The report will be used to develop plans and design programs to support the community!
