The Common Place has a commercial kitchen which has been in the building for 100 years. Efforts are underway to renovate this kitchen so that it can again be useful to the SW community. This kitchen will be used for church functions, Cornerstone Christian Academy students, nutrition education, TCP events, community events, meals for the community, and culinary education. We also have a dream to teach children entrepreneurship through the development of a cottage industry using this kitchen for baked goods and/or rotisserie items to be sold to support our ministries.
This undertaking is not an easy challenge. Kitchens are expensive and there are considerable regulations in Philadelphia with which this kitchen must comply before work commences. Architectural plans are being developed which will be submitted to the Philadelphia Department of Licensing & Inspection and Department of Health this year. We plan to commence work on this project in 2018 once funding is secured. Work is already underway in the adjoining area to this kitchen with the recent provision of a new concrete floor which was donated by Madison Concrete Company.
We are pleased to announce that we have received commitments for 80% of the total cost of renovating this kitchen and adjoining areas which is estimated at approximately $250,000 in total. We are approximately $50,000 short of our goal. The Lord continues to bless TCP! We are excited to be moving ahead with this project. Please contact Peter Grim (peter.grim@thecommonplacephilly.org) for a tour, a donation or any questions regarding this project or TCP in general.
