This summer, SW Philadelphia youth will again be provided an introduction to the construction trades through participation in the Hammers with Heart Trades Camp. This camp is a collaborative project between The Common Place, The Hammers with Heart ministry of the Wayne Presbyterian Church, Cornerstone Christian Academy, and the Williamson College of the Trades. The purpose of the camp is to provide an introduction to the construction trades to SW Philadelphia youth as a potential alternative to a traditional college education. Qualified participants may have the opportunity to apply to the Williamson College of the Trades for a college scholarship toward focused education in the construction trades. Williamson graduates are highly sought by construction contractors culminating in lucrative careers. Trades Camp participants are provided transportation from SW Philadelphia to the Williamson College of the Trades to complete a carpentry project, learn of the various trades, visit a construction site, and receive a certification of completion at the end of the program. Aside from a $10.00 registration fee, transportation, t-shirts, meals, instruction, and project materials are provided to participants at no cost.
This program has an annual budget of $20,000 and has just received a foundation grant for $5,000. Other supports are provided through Cornerstone Christian Academy, The Hammers with Heart Construction Ministry, The Wayne Presbyterian Church Alternative Gift Program, the Wednesday Morning Men’s Bible Study Group, and individual donors. We have raised approximately $15,000 of the $20,000 needed to fund this summer’s program.
Please consider contributing to the future of SW Philadelphia youth through a donation. Checks can be made out to:
