On April 22nd, TCP was honored to host A Common Youth Initiative (ACYI) group from Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church. ACYI has been connecting groups with TCP for many years, tailoring each experience to provide value and insights to our visitors.
An immersive day of learning and service was curated by TCP Director, Chris Holland. The Bryn Mawr youth learned about the vibrant and unique culture within Southwest Philadelphia. In fact, many were surprised at the number of different cultures existing in one neighborhood. Statistics surrounding food apartheid were shocking to the young volunteers as they learned about TCP’s response to fresh produce scarcity. Crucial social issues within the SW Philadelphia community were examined and interrogated during a roundtable discussion about the church’s responsibility to combat injustice. Questions such as, “What is a ministry’s call to action against generational injustice?” and “Am I brave enough to step into the deep with Christ sustaining my efforts?” were posed. The youth shared stories about overcoming their fears and being called to action when the greater good is at stake.
The group was eager to tour the campus and expressed great interest in Bunny’s garden. Under the warmth of a beautiful spring day, the group put their faith into action through service projects on the TCP campus. Cornerstone Christian Academy and the University of Pennsylvania collaborated with the Bryn Mawr youth to repaint the parking lot lines and install new chicken wire in Bunny’s garden.
This day would prove to be enlightening and insightful for the Bryn Mawr teens. We appreciate them taking the time to visit TCP and challenge their faith and action!
