On Saturday November 4th, TCP hosted a ten year birthday celebration to kickoff a year of remembering our life and ministry together in Southwest Philadelphia. Topping of the cocktail hour style celebration was the musical stylings of longtime friend of The Common Place and Salt & Light, V. Shayne Frederick. Guests enjoyed light refreshments while making connections between their own histories and experiences with The Common Place.
The evening included addresses from Rev. Cean James (Salt & Light Church), Rev. Leonard Dow (Chairman-elect of TCP’s Board), Rev. Christopher Holland (Executive Director of The Common Place), Luke Carneal (TRELLIS for Tomorrow), Scottie Fancher (long-time volunteer in the after school program), Shamira Abrams (parent of a TCP Scholar), and Gene Burke (TCP Director of Operations). Saturday’s gathering showcased one of TCP’s core strengths: the diversity of partner organizations, volunteers, donors, and program participants.
While we recognize and joyfully celebrate the wonderful work that has taken place throughout our decade of service in Southwest, we also look forward (with joy!) for what is on the horizon. The Common Place is making strides in the areas of food justice, social and emotional wellbeing, and early childhood education even as we continue to grow our core afterschool and summer camp programs. We need your help as we continue to reflect the Spirit of Hope that lives in our community.
