Happy Holidays! We spent the month of October & November celebrating autumn and learned about things that happen in the fall season such as the changing weather, turning leaves, and daylight savings time. We had a special visitor, Ms. Janet, who did an amazing art project with us! With her help, the Scholars made custom spiders webs for our fall festival! The Scholars painted the webs and made their own spiders! They were displayed throughout the building! We also had a visit from The John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge who taught the scholars about the different animals that live right here in Southwest Philly. We will be attending a nature hike there soon and the children are very excited.
Our annual Fall Festival went off without a hitch! There was music, dancing, games, a photo booth, face painting, children in their favorite costumes and of course loads of candy! It was a lot of fun! We are so grateful for the many community partners who helped make the event successful such as State Representative Joanna McClinton, The 12th District Police Department, State Senator Anthony Williams, U.S. Congresswoman Mary Scanlon, PECO Energy, Independence Blue Cross, ACANA, and more!
Our Social-Emotional theme for this season was Empathy and Critical Thinking. The scholars are learning to develop empathy and reduced-stereotyped thinking, as well as critical thinking skills. We have also implemented S.E.L. check-ins into our daily schedule. Lastly, Middle School Scholars have continued to learn about entrepreneurship and the difference between an idea and an opportunity.
Stay tuned for what we accomplish!
