Holy Rest Road Trip

Holy Rest Retreat Mornings for women happen three times a year, in the fall winter and spring. This April we journeyed to Hillsboro, MD, for a day of retreat at The Retreat House there.

Our retreat leader, Patience Robbins, led us in a “Day of Prayer.” Gratitude was our focus for the morning session. Patience led us in a guided prayer exercise that drew us into a deep experience of gratefulness.

After lunch, our focus was compassion, and in particular, self-compassion. The guided prayer practice helped each of us to appreciate the importance of caring for our own spirits in the same way so many of us do for others. Self-compassion was a new idea for some of us and one that gives us much to ponder as we seek to serve God in our lives in a way that is balanced and healthy.

Our next Holy Rest morning for the women of southwest Philadelphia will be on Saturday, September 29, at Bartram’s Garden from 9:30 AM – 1:00 PM. For more information, please contact Buff Barnes at buff@thecommonplacephilly.org.
